Hi Ian,

To answer your questions -

A) Create a credit memo request and then bill it to create the credit note. - In this the material would have to be keyed in by the user. Initially the credit memo request would be BLANK (no material).
Apart from keying in all details, in the document flow also there would not be the visibility of previous documents (like sales order or billing document that was incorrect)

B) Create a credit memo request with reference to the original sales order and bill it to create the credit note. - In this option material would come automatically and document flow would also be shown.

In either A or B, would you expect the credit memo request to contain the original material number from the sales order or something else.

D) create credit memo request with reference to billing document (as suggested by Dutch, in post above). By this user is "giving back money" only after the company is "getting money from the customer".
Also cr request with ref to billing document is more accurate as there might be a difference in the prices of sales order and billing document.

E) Another option could be CANCEL the billing document. Do the necessary changes in the sales order in the Tab Condition (e.g. pricing) and then create a billing document again. This time the billing document would have the correct values.

Apart from these things Order reason and billing blocks are handy tools to be explored. Copy control can see to it that the process is "disciplined".

Subject: Should Credit Memo Have Line Items/Materials

Hi all,

My question is if a sales order is created and the item is based on delivery related billing, I would expect there to be a delivery document created with reference to the sales order, a post good issue for the delivery and ultimately a billing document to complete the cycle. Assuming the customer receives the billing document and says they have been overcharged, would the user:

A) Create a credit memo request and then bill it to create the credit note.

B) Create a credit memo request with reference to the original sales order and bill it to create the credit note.

In either A or B, would you expect the credit memo request to contain the original material number from the sales order or something else.

Regards.
