You can assign the sales area to sales document type in customizing.
The following is the path :
SPRO – Sales and Distribution – Sales – Sales document – Sales document Header – Assign Sales area to sales document type.

When I try to make a return with reference to billing documents, I am receiving the message ZRE(Order type)
Order type 'ZRE' has not been defined in Sales area.
