RE:[sap-log-sd] Difference between account group and partner functions.

As we have some helpful technical explanation in the above posts, I shall give an example, might help clear the concept (further) -

An architect has a blue print to construct a Home. This blue print has an account of number of rooms, dimensions, mandatory appliances etc.

On the basis of this blueprint you create a Home. But this is NOT YET LABELLED, one additional step is that you have to get an authorization from your "Townhall authority", that certificate/board is called "HOME". When you hang that certificate or board on your building, ONLY then it is known as a home to the world.

This blueprint is the customer account group. (which is called HOME)
This certificate or board is called the partner function (which is also called HOME)
but the two "HOMES" server totally different purposes.

Now you can also get certificates of "OFFICE and HOTEL" from the Townhall, and hang those boards on your home; from then on your home shall serve as home, office and hotel for the world.
Thus boards Office and Hotel are more partner functions, that can be "hung" on the Building home.

NB - Without putting the board, the building is not yet serving any purpose (from the perspective of "what partner" is it a home or an office or a hotel)

Subject: Difference between account group and partner functions.

Hello experts.

I just want to be clear conceptually.

In SAP, we have account groups 0001, 0002, 0003, and 0004 as Sold -to, Ship-to, Payer and Bill - to respectively. We also have partner functions Sold-to, Ship-to, Bill-to and Payer as SP, SH, BP, and PY respectively.

I don't understand why we have different account groups and different partner types. It is even more confusing also because both have the same name. If we do partner determination at 0001, do we need partner determination procedure for 0002, 0003, and 0004? What are the business reasons for doing so?

Thank you in advance.
