Most likely you didn't created the customer as a Sold-To party (rather as a Bill-To, Ship-to, Payer...). Can you check the account group of the customer?

We set up our customer masters using sales org, distribution channel, and division.
We process our sales orders using sales org, dist channel,and division.

I get the above referenced error when trying to use a certain customer master in a sales order.
I believe the sales org and division used when the customer master was created is maintained for the sales org and division of the sales order in config -

Any ideas on why we are getting this error?
