Important point is - The business requirement(s) dictate how and what we configure in SAP.
e.g. if there are multiple SH partners (i.e. for a customer many delivery addresses), then we have to configure accordingly.

In Partner determination, there are lot of options -
Partner function could be Unique, Mandatory, Not Modifiable, "automatically populated" during the creation of a customer master record, also external, internal number range (to make it easier for business to differentiate/identify etc.)
It might be interesting to test the different scenarios & practice these different "functionalities" / options presented by SAP (w.r.t. Partner det.)

Note the above reply will only work if all partners are the same customer. In my current client there are many ship-to-parties and different PY customers.
