RE:[sap-log-sd] Difference between account group and partner functions.

Hi Adriano,

In principle you can assign the roles SP, SH, PY and BP to account group 0001 so that you only create one customer master data record for (small) customers.

However, for big customers, having an accounting department and various locations to ship goods to, it is better to create separate shipto's (0002), payer (0003) and billto (0004) and link these to the 0001. In that case, you cannot create an order with the wrong department (payer cannot be used as soldto in sales order) and you can create orders for one soldto, shipping to multiple addresses etc.

Hope that helps

Subject: Difference between account group and partner functions.

Hello experts.

I just want to be clear conceptually.

In SAP, we have account groups 0001, 0002, 0003, and 0004 as Sold -to, Ship-to, Payer and Bill - to respectively. We also have partner functions Sold-to, Ship-to, Bill-to and Payer as SP, SH, BP, and PY respectively.

I don't understand why we have different account groups and different partner types. It is even more confusing also because both have the same name. If we do partner determination at 0001, do we need partner determination procedure for 0002, 0003, and 0004? What are the business reasons for doing so?

Thank you in advance.
