Neal, I am looking for a field that shows up on picking selection screens like IH10. But that is not the point, I could use many different fields in the equipment master to store a number ... the concern is .... when the business is doing Goods Receipt against a PO item with quantity 100 for example, I want to allow the user to just scan/type those 100 serial numbers into the MIGO screen and process it. A text field as you suggest, does not come up for each serial number during GR .....obviously, the scanned/typed (more than 18 char.) serial number should also exist in the equipment master when you look at it individually in the cases of Inventory control reports ...again text fields are not easily included in queries without major formatting .... But the root of my question, is to try to find other solutions implemented at other sites where the 18 characters of the serial number was not enough and need to be a field available during picking again...I already tried with Manuf. SN# and although it complies with my requirement, it forces the user to go into EACH equipment and maintain the corresponding 18+ serial number manually .... and I am trying to find an elegant solution to that before I go into an enhancement request (Trying to avoid re-inventing something maybe available in SAP in another way.

I thought about using the 'Manuf.SerialNumber" field (ITOB-SERGE) and although I think this will work there is not a nice user friendly flow of entering those serial numbers during Goods Receipt unless you go into the equipment master for each (user may do a GR with 100 serial numbers to enter at once with 2000 orders a month so it is not a viable solution unless we provide capability to scan-entry) I though about the option of defining a Conversion Routine to point to the SERGE field instead of the GERNR but my technical knowledge is not that good to explain the requirement (plus I am not sure if it is the correct solution) So basically, I will like to hear other ideas from other people and of course, if there is a particular SAP industry solution that could provide such serial number bigger than 18 (aprox 30 characters is needed) and I do not re-invent the wheel Hope this makes sense and thanks for any feedback, Ed. | | __.____._ Copyright © 2011 Toolbox.com and message author.
