I was not clear in my post.
The issue raised by Indra was "No Customer Master record exists for sold to party 961000005". For that you & Jim proposed the reason could be that customer is not extented for the sales area used for that sales order.
I tested based on your suggestions, & came to the conclusion that - The original issue is NOT caused because of "incorrect" sales area. Thus your suggestion shall NOT solve the issue.
I suggested (in an earlier post) that the cause of this issue is lack of creation of Partner function SP in the partner procedure that is assigned to the account group, for that customer master record. My tests, also support this suggestion.
Anyway, my "lack of clarity" was beneficial to get your post with the ever-applicable advice of "keep it simple". This philosophy is also followed by SAP.

...this is the way it should be. This just shows that even for same customer system keeps as many customer masters as there are sales area. Thus the lesson from here is that we should keep our organization structure as minimal as possible because if we add more organizational units, master data multiplies exponentially
I have come across organizations that used four divisions in the first rollout, in the first upgrade they used just one. (means that much less master data. The next logical question is how they did divisional reporting and analysis if they had just one (product) division?....they used product hierarchy(hierarchy makes up for divisions). These are hard learned lessons ....there is no better learning then learning by mistakes ...
