Isn't diff used to make sure that the condition values in bom's equal the total of the bom per rounding rules? I think that a better solution is to set a condition type as a calculation type = formula, then use a formula routine to calculate the difference between 2 other condition types, e.g. formula 12 calculates its value based on xworkd - xworke.

You can use the functionality of Condition type DIFF, which will subtract value of x2 from the value of x1(of course I have assumed that x1 has greater value than x2 discount) using the from and to arrive at the value of the difference item.
