I agree with the posts by members. Vamsi has explained the technical & business reason.
Adding to that -
it is not advisable to fulfill this request, think about -
- firstly, order entry staff is checking availability and then allocating the delivery plant, why "in the middle" of the process the delivering plant has to be changed? What is happening?
- what shall be updated in the sales order? and how?
e.g.
in sales order - 10 EA from plant Z100
in delivery - 10EA from plant Z100 (initially)
in delivery - 8EA from plant Z100 and 2EA from plant Z200
Is this going to be updated in the sales order, HOW??
- who shall change the delivering plant, is it the warehouse staff or the order entry staff?
- (maybe) already a delivery note is printed with a delivering plant, that could add to confusion - same delivery note with different plants
I would suggest that you convince the business that this request would not be beneficial to them in the long run and the staff must be trained and disciplined to do the relevant steps, so that system reflects the actual processes, in a correct and timely manner. This would also save money!
