It is not possible to have more than one material X with serial number Y, the sysystem will not allow it. Even if you are not using full equipment master records, SAP assigns an internal equipment number to all material/serial combinations. Once Material X serial number Y is created, you cannot create a duplicate record. Double check those numbers. You can make demands for the material/serial number though. What you may be seeing in MMBE is the commitment (check the selection screen) or Zero stock lines (check the selection screen). The return order will be for the return of the material/serial number from the customer consigned stock.

Hi, I have a material (X) with a serial number (Y) in in customer consigned stock. Our user created customer return order (order type:RE) with no order reference and brought into unrestricted stock for same material(X) with same serial number (Y). The system allowed this. I am under the impression, it should not allow same material (X) with same serial number(Y) in stock more than once, it is a serial number duplicate situation. We have serial numbers defined at client level - unique number at client level. Am I missing some configuration or standard SAP (we are on ECC6.0) allows this? Appreciate your help.
